Tallinn University doctoral student Anne-Liis Peterson (Ruussaar) and Munich University doctoral student Kristel Kaljund interviewed Udmurts living in the Udmurt Republic in Russia in 2001 and 2002. The locations were Ižkar, Kez, Izgurt, and Kuzebajevo. The surveys were supposed to reveal how the Udmurts perceive their identity. The film also reveals the relationship between Udmurt and Russian identity and how they work together. The Udmurts also talk about the current state of their culture, the reputation of the Udmurts, and other similar things. Among the respondents were both ordinary rural people and intellectuals, and businessmen. In addition to the interview with the well-known Udmurt shaman-artist Yuri Kutshyran, an excerpt from his performance will be shown. | ||||||||||||||

“Päikeselapsed” on oma autorite sõnul uurimusfilm udmurdi identiteedist ehk audiovisuaalselt dokumenteeritud sotsiokultuuriline pilt udmurtidest. Küsitlustest pidi selguma, kuidas tajuvad udmurdid oma identiteeti. Samuti selgub filmist, millises suhtes on udmurdi ja vene identiteet ning kuidas nad koos toimivad. Udmurdid kõnelevad ka oma kultuuri hetkeolukorrast, udmurtide mainest ja muust sarnasest. Küsitletute hulgas oli nii tavalisi maainimesi kui ka haritlasi ja ärimehi. Meilgi tuntud udmurdi šamaan-kunstniku Juri Kutšõrani intervjuule lisaks näidatakse katkendit ta performance’ist. | |||||||||||||||
