A documentary from 2002 on the study of Udmurt identity, or an audiovisually documented socio-cultural portrait of Udmurts. Tallinn University doctoral student Anne-Liis Peterson (Ruussaar) and Munich University doctoral student Kristel Kaljund interviewed Udmurts living in the Udmurt Republic in Russia in 2001 and 2002. The locations were Ižkar, Kez, Izgurt, and Kuzebajevo. The surveys were supposed to reveal how the Udmurts perceive their identity. The film also reveals the relationship between Udmurt and Russian identity and how they work together. The Udmurts also talk about the current state of their culture, the reputation of the Udmurts, and other similar things. Among the respondents were both ordinary rural people and intellectuals, and businessmen. In addition to the interview with the well-known Udmurt shaman-artist Yuri Kutshyran, an excerpt from his performance will be shown.
