Šos egļu zarus smalki sakapā un tad izkaisa istabā un durvju priekšā (pēdējo gan dara tikai svētku dienās vai svinību reizēs). 60. A peasant lad from the environs of the city brings spruce branches to Riga for sale, crying: “Skujas! Skujas!” [“Spruce twigs! Spruce twigs!”]. Some he has already sold. These spruce branches are finely chopped and then strewn about the room and before the doorway (the latter, however, only on feast days or festive occasions). At funerals, the street along which the dead are carried is also strewn with sawdust and chopped spruce twigs. Detail of a drawing by J. C. Brotze (III, 64)
