Kultuurantropoloogiline dokumentaalfilm soome-ugri rahvaste etnograafiast ja etnogeneesist on järg Lennart Meri filmile „Veelinnurahvas“ (1970). Meri interpreteerib soome-ugri hõimurahvaste sugulus-, keele- ning kultuurisuhteid. Soomlased, vepslased, vadjalased, setud, ersamordvalased, mansid, ungarlased, saamid, nganassaanid ja eestlased on üles võetud 1977. aastal Põhja-Soomes, Lapimaal, Vepsamaal, Vadjamaal, Mordvas, Handi-Mansimaal, Ungaris, Taimõri poolsaarel, Setumaal, Saare-ja Muhumaal ning 1970. aastal Neenetsi ringkonnas.
