Changed [et] label, description and aliases: Elavana maetud, Filmi algmaterjal on üles võetud kunagises kloostrikülas D’azarvis (vn Jašozero) 2005. aasta juulis. Dokumentaalset käsitlust raamib Põhja-Venemaal laialt tuntud muistend “endamatjate tšuudide” kohta. Seda on vepslased kõnelnud paiguti ka iseendi kohta. Feliks Oinasele toetudes võiks legendi algupära pidada ka õigeuskliku impeeriumi koloniaaltegevuse õigustuseks “vaimupimedate paganate” hävitamisele. |

A 2006 documentary by Maarika Lauri. The original material for the film was shot in the former monastic village of D’azarvi (vn Jašozero) in July 2005. The documentary treatment is framed by a legend widely known in Northern Russia about the “self-murdering Chuds”. The Vepsians have also spoken of this in some places about themselves. Based on Feliks Oinas, the origin of the legend could also be considered a justification for the colonial activities of the Orthodox empire to destroy the “spiritually blind pagans”.
