+Film jaguneb mõtteliselt kolme ossa. Esimene peatükk on pühendatud iidsetele mälukandjatele, nagu Karjala kaljujoonised, Kalevala-värss, hantide karupeied. Ringkäik minevikus on põimitud müütilise muinasajalooga, kuid tõmbab paralleele tänapäevaga. Teises osas jutustab Lennart Meri soome rahvaluulekoguja Elias Lönnroti külaskäigust Eestisse ja tema kohtumistest Eesti vaimuinimestega 1844. aastal. Huvi eesti keele vastu ja sõprus Faehlmanniga vihjab vastastikusele mõjule meeste töös “Kalevala” ja “Kalevipoja” koostamisel. Kolmandas osas taaselustatakse Eesti Filharmoonia Kammerkoori ja dirigent Tõnu Kaljustega Veljo Tormise kooriteose „Raua needmine“ filmiettekandes muistne rauasulatus- ja sepistamisrituaal.

This 1986 documentary is divided into three parts: the first part is dedicated to ancient bearers of memory, such as Karelian rock paintings, the poetry of Kalevala, and the Khanti bear funeral ceremony. Taking a tour in the past has been interwoven with mythical ancient history, yet drawing parallels with today's society. In the second part, Lennart Meri tells about Finnish folklore collector Elias Lönnrot's trip to Estonia and his meetings with Estonian intellectuals in 1844. Interest towards the Estonian language and friendship with Faehlmann hints at mutual influence in their work while compiling "Kalevala" and "Kalevipoeg". In the third part, the filmmakers revive the ancient iron smelting and blacksmithing ritual through the film performance of the choral work "Curse upon iron" by Veljo Tormis (performed by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste).
