TextileBase is a collaborative demonstration project by Ieava Pigozne and Reprex, inviting you to explore the feasibility of connecting textile and fashion history, cultural history, and other databases to a connected knowledge base.
The demonstration consists of the following elements:
Garments database
- A demonstration database of shirts and skirts.
- Shirts dataset: a structured dataset about shirts in various art, fashion and folk history databases.
- Skirts dataset: a structured dataset about shirts in various art, fashion and folk history databases.
Research database
- A demonstration database of researchers and their research.
- Researchers dataset: a structured dataset about researchers who publish about the topic of the database or have published about the particular garments in the database.
- Publications that describe the garments in the database.
- Institutions and their inventory books, catalogues, and websites that hold the garments in the database.
Thesaurus & Ontology
- A demonstration of a tool to create an interdisciplinary thesaurus.
- Ideas about building better-controlled vocabularies, thesauri, and eventually an ontology to connect various GLAM memory institutions' knowledge (libraries, archives, museums, private collections, fashion design studios, etc.) into a shared knowledge base.
TextileBase was carried out with the support of a Short-Term Scientific Mission grant in August-September 2024.
